Anybody assessed the bouldering/climbing potential of this area? Check out yesterdays Herald, section D8, or www.wairereboulders.co.nz. Situated in the Hokianga on private land.

From a previous enquiry....

'From the owners "We do not allow bouldering in the tourism area, because we have plants growing on the boulders, plants that are up to 500 years old. So we do not wish them to be destroyed.

There is a possibility of climbing on boulders in the paddocks at your own risk. Cattle might be around and you have to report to us beforehand by phone 09 401 9935. There is also a charge for using up our parking space which is built for the tourists walking our boulder encounter. " '

Life is short, art is long, opportunity fleeting, experimenting dangerous, reasoning difficult

potential = AMAZING
Boulders = Freakin awesome
Access = nice track leading up once side of the valley, down the other
Owners = adverse to having climbers affect the walkway tourism they recieve, which effectively rules out all the best climbing opportunities.

However further up the valley above the walkway is some more great boulders, and there are some others that we saw that are in the fields( right outside the owners house) and a massive 12m high boulder with potential for some grade 29 routes on it at the very top of the hill.

My guess is that if there is one valley like this -----There may be another

Yeah some of them were pretty big. Maybe not quite 30m but still pretty big. Had some really interesting formations as well that just called out to be bouldered on.
