Okay, so the latest Climber mag has all this super dangerous info about the nextest unclimbed alpine routes.  Obviously, those old pricks writing about these routes no longer have the ability to do such climbs, or they would have already done them 20 years ago.  They have given up waiting and are passing their failed dreams onto a younger and more innocent generation.  What are we sposed to do with this unclaimed inheritance? Fuck it, just cos Nick Craddock and Al Uren are geriatically challenged incontinents who can't do a winter ice climb that involves a bivvy because they might wet their sleeping bags is no excuse for them to pass their failures down to a younger generation of climbers.

Surely it's for the current generation to decide for themselves what constitutes the last great problems rather than be dictated to by these overated cockheads.

Any Comments?

Heh, that's pretty harsh. They were asked to write those articles, it wasn't like like er - listen here boys, take it from me, this is what you need to be doing - at least I think. Innocent

But yes, far better to live out your own dreams than someone elses.

Harsh yes, but we've been presented with a bucket list of other peoples broken dreams.  Lets face it it's old mutton being dressed up as supersized lamb. What's next, free happy meals to feed the masses?

Yunno, the climber called Earnslaw Hemingway once wrote "Hesitation increases in relation to risk in equal proportion to age".   So why should anybody be interested in some old man who was a failure?

Indeed, why should an intelligent young man want to drink from the bottle of old men's foolish follies, unless he enjoys spending time with fools?

If you live your own dreams then at least you get to set the rules.

But remember to pay attention to what Earnslaw also once said; Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.Foot in mouth

One night, after a few absinthes and some ibuprofen, I said I was going to carry my mountainbike all the way to the top of mount cook. I never did it, though I subsequently took a taxi to Kelburn.

I've never told anyone that before, I feel like a beam of sunlight has dried out the little, damp corner of my psyche where I keep all the Mark Twight quotes. And really, we all know the unfinished business is the ride down.

Thanks for sharing MM, it must feel great to bathe in the warm sunlight of reality from time to time.  Being more of a Vampire makes it hard for me to read from my book of Mark Twight quotes, but you don't need to be long in the tooth to realize that Bucket Routes and Unfinished Business are synonymous with doing something shiny and new.

I think that might be a Madonna quote actually.Sealed
