Katana's, Muira's or Anasazi's what ever fits your foot the best cos they all have slighty different lasts. I've only ever used sportiva and 5:10 shoes (except for my first rock pillars) so can't coment on other brands...

I've got Red Chilli Durango's at the moment and they are fairly good for indoor at $150. However outdoor I have doubts the rubber is as soft for smearing as La Sportiva/5.10's and also I sometimes wish the toe was a little more pointed for deep small pockets.

My cousin has a pair of La Sporitva Mantis Shoes at about the same price, these would be my pick from the 2 brands for the reasons stated above. They also look better and are velcro. Although it would be wise to compare La Sportiva with 5.10.

i have used sprotivas, not bad on edging however my lace up 5.10's...out of this world....sticky and wonderful edges and lasting a long time....i wouldn't go back and i find the rubber is far better than that of the katanas...i guess if you look around the world at what the good climbers are wearing that might help as well...try them out most of all
