Took my first ground fall on Saturday arvo. Wasnt too bad, only a couple of metres, but I did hit the ground. Started to feel my ankle just after I did it but then started to have back spasms a little later in the day and spent Sunday on my back in bed. Starting to feel better now. But who thinks I should go see someone about it? I dont think I have done anything too serious (if serious at all).

Also would like to know who has decked out before, and what the outcome was?

worst Ive done is pendulumed into a corner, sort of like horisontal decking, shook me up a bit.
If you have doubts about being OK then get thee to a hospital/ doctor. I lied, I decked my first lead, from about 2 meters, no big deal. Seriously, If your in pain, get it checked, ankles are nasty little creatures and can take a looong time to heral. Hope none of this applies to you and your OK afterall. Cheers.

My ass doesn't hurt, so it wont have to be poked and prodded. (THANK GOD!) I have made an appointment to see my gp tomorrow. I dont think anything is wrong. But I am going to do it just to make sure.

An unfortunate chap took a 2m ground fall at Paynes a couple weeks ago. Off the 15 left of Nicknack Paddywack. He fell before clipping the first bolt and compound fractured his lower leg. Rumour has it that his scream froze the swimming hole.

Be cautious out there... you don't have to go far to do BIG damage.

It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now.

How did you go at the doctors? In my experience many GP's will give you a disprin and send you home provided there was nothing broken and you can walk or at least limp. If you are having any ongoing pain in the ankle or back, etc, then go and see a physio. They might be able to help speed recovery. I have often found the physio to more helpful than the GP with sports injuries. You should be covered by ACC and do not need a referal from your GP.

I have had more than enough experience with acc through my mountainbiking. I am feeling a hell of alot better. I'm walking fine again and dont have to sit down every five minutes cause of a sore back. My gp said that everything was cool. He felt up my spine and said everything was where it should be. I will beleive him entirely, cause he is the one that told me when i displaced two vertabrae in my neck. If the pain comes back at all im going to go to a family friend who is a physio.

I'm relatively new to the forum and was browsing old threads, and don't know if I should own up to this or not....
But I have good reason to believe that the person whose 'scream froze the water hole' was in fact me.

The irony of it was that I had been staying with my family in Nelson and had just the night before been convincing them of how safe rock climbing was... I've never lived that down.

For those interested... it all healed up, but they were unable to piece alot of the ankle joint back together and I have fairly bad arthritis in it. Good news is that I can still tramp and climb and what not albeit a little slower and with a bit of pain.

All in all I would advise not breaking anything if at all possible. It's not particularly pleasant.
