Right it needs to be said. Quit the bullshit.

This site is financed by me (now sponsored by my company) for the climbing community. You see no advertising, you don't have to pay a dime, and you aren't required to do anything or contribute to it in any way shape or form.

I don't need to see posts slagging each other off or endless drivel, thats not what I built it for, and thats not how people should behave if they want to have rights to post on here.

Pull your heads in or you get banned. You know who you are. Young'uns, this is not a playground for mouthing off, old'uns it's not a place for slagging off the young'uns.

sure rowan - you pay the bills, you control the content. end of story.

but censorship is a slippery slope...

and bear in mind that not all negative posts are destructive. the essence of any debate is that there are always (at least) two sides. depending on where you sit someone else's post could be bullsh*t or gospel.

that's all i'm saying on the subject.

Disagreed. Letting a few individuals (not even sure if you read the posts) tell each other where to go in no uncertain terms, may be fun and humurous for those involved, but does bring this site into disrepute.

So far this site has cost me:

$2300 odd in hosting + domain costs
300 hrs at least * oppurtunity cost

I bet you you'd start getting a little more protective about it. I want mojo to be an ongoing legacy, but a few individuals could easily ruin it for all concerned.

What happens with the people who login to the site who've never been here before and see stuff in the forums. Get turned off, give it a bad name etc. The selfish attitude of some people like this is their personal playpen pisses me off.

Basically like I said (not directed to you personally JP!!), if you don't want to quit the BS, then you'll get banned. Your choice. End of story.

Yes, I agree that some of those posts could be off putting to new commers or anyone just browsing the site (heck some of them where probably mine).

Some times there are folk who just can't take a subtle hint and harsh words are used in frustration in order to express ones discontent - leave it at that ;)

Lets not let this great resource that Rowan has kindly provided for the climbing community get destroyed as it would be a shame to lose it. Any individual who makes it deteriorate deserves to get banned.

I think it is not the slagging off that annoys me as much as pointless banter that could be done verbally or face to face when those concerned are firends and do see one another and could use private emails to communicate the same messages.

I think people should look at Chockstone as a site that has a lot of good forums and OTHER info that is useful....

Gees Rowan that is a tremendous personal commitment, I’ll have to make a donation. I guess the line could be drawn:

1) If swear words are used as these incite emotions if someone swears at me I feel inclined to swear at them back violence begets violence

2)People slag each other off personally

Otherwise I hope constructive criticism is welcomed, debating a topic is insightful it helps you to make up and change your own views. It’s when emotion leads to negative emotive language that a problem occurs. We are still a lot better than our heads of state but that’s not hard. Your thoughts…

thats a very good place to put the line, and i must stop crossing it (like whitecaps if someone swears at me I feel inclined to swear at them back)

btw rowan, thats one hell of a commitment. i would make a donation too, but my phone broke recently and replacing it ate up the last of my money.

As long as it is genuine debate with varying points of view on climbing related topics.

Personal attacks are not necessary (though there has never been much of that here anyway)

Some of the recent threads have been a bit of a waste of time though.

I blame JP.

Some fair comments Rowan,

How about posting some of that content i've sent you though.

It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now.

Okay, maybe im getting worked up on this, or being anal, or a hypocrite, or okay yes whatever but I am going to run with this anyway.

Its common forum etiquette not to resurrect old threads. If you have a good point that was missed then by all means add it in. But if its some a comment like "I just stood on a slug in barefeet", or somthing just as equally inane, then don't resurrect the thread for the sake of it. Yes I am doing just that to this one, but its a sticky and seems appropriate

Also repeated inane comments in the middle of thread get irritating too. No one needs to know or care about somone standing on a slug in barefeet in the middle of a conversation about topic XYZ.

Also, smack talk was created for a good reason. If you have to plan your social life on a fourm, or talk about the horrors of a slug squishing between your toes then thats the place to do it or another thread - not in the middle of a serious thread.

thats understandable. sorry if ive done it without realising. i'm guessing that this is in response to the resurection of "which shoes are best", which was partly my fault.

btw who stood on a slug?
